Speed limit max. 40 mph

Speed Titnore Lane.JPG

The first thing to mention is that I have first hand knowledge of the speed in Titnore Lane as I have lived just off the Lane since 2016.

I have produced a report regarding this matter in the sum of 25 pages long, less the forms for the petition, which I have to insert later and forward to W.S.C.C with the application form. After careful consideration I decided not to publish all report online as most members of the public will probably not read it.

Summary of the Report

After investigations and in 1995 when the development was turned down and the reclassification of the road should have not been undertaken until the highway improvements had been carried out on Titnore lane. Therefore, the road should not have been upgraded to the A2700 but classified as a Class C road where the advisory speed limit of 40 mph should have been up held and not as it is at present 60 mph.

Over recent years the traffic has increased considerably in Titnore lane due to increase of the population which has led to the building of  new estates and small developments in the vicinity and including local businesses. Quite a number of people use this lane to travel to and from their place of work, Goring railway station and leisure or study. The majority of the Public I have spoken too consider this to be essential to reduce the speed limit to 40 mph and prevent accidents, also to reduce the CO2 omissions.

Since July 2015 - July 2020 there have been 20 no: accidents, 5 no: serious and 15 no: minor, however these are the only ones that have been registered by the police or highways. I know there have been several more since July 2020 including clipping the culvert safety barriers and knocking down road signs these may not have been registered.

If there is an accident in Titnore Lane generally it has to be closed for safety of personnel who are attending the accident, together with recovery vehicles, which in turn causes inconvenience to the road users. As we are all tax payers and contributing towards the emergency services, including the local authorities repairing any damage that has occurred, one accident less benefits everybody also you cannot put monetary value on someone's life or injury, together with heartache and cost to families involved. It's no good saying afterwards that the speed limit of 60 mph should have been reduced to 40 mph.

Finally, I hope after the Local  Authorities have read the report together with your help in signing this online petition, that common sense prevails and they will reach the same conclusion to reduce the Speed limit to 40 mph from 60 mph in Titnore Lane.
