  Section No 3 Road Crossing

Road Crossing 1.JPG

The first thing to mention is that I have first hand knowledge of trying to cross Titnore Lane as I lived just off the Lane since 2016.

I have produce a report regarding this matter in the sum of  14 pages long, the forms for the petition which, have to be inserted later and forward to W.S.C.C with the application form. After careful consideration I decided not publish all the report online as most members of the public will probably not read it.

My Summary of the Report

The non-existence of  a road crossing between the Northbrook Recreation Ground and Eurogreen Environmental Ltd entrance is just a hole in the hedgerow. With no protection for those who wish to cross at this location. The new game is called " Chicken " with their lives as they try to cross. At the present time with the increase of traffic north and south is imposing a serious safety issue.

Titnore Lane - Is a country lane and passes through the South Downs National Park and wooded areas and the hedgerows and trees are on the east side at this particular location. This impairs your vision and sight lines for oncoming traffic north and south. The hedgerow requires cutting back at regular intervals to ensure that a clear view is maintained at all times. The lane is compromised and should a member of the public be forward of the hedgerow the danger is that the vehicles approaching may have to swerve to avoid hitting the person or persons trying to cross the lane. Therefore it is more important to provide a road crossing at this point for safety and the wellbeing of the public, including road signs on the approach to the crossing north and south warning drivers.

Over the past few years the traffic has increased including the HGV'S as the population grows and the provision of new developments are built in the local areas. Which in turn has a knock on effect of  more residents and visitors wishing to explore the environment they live in either by walking, cycling, running and excising their dogs etc: therefore, it is more important than ever to provide a safe passage across Titnore Lane by means of a road crossing. As this links the existing path to the South Down National Park and Highdown from the Northbrook Recreation Ground this being one of Worthing's great asset.

Another consideration is to reduce the Speed to 40 mph, with the amount of traffic which has increased during the past few years on Titnore Lane without an adequate crossing. With no indication to drivers north or south there are members of the public trying to cross risk causing themselves an injury or to the driver and the vehicle. We all know who comes off worst and cost to the Emergency Services and Local Authorities who attend.

Finally I hope after the Local Authorities have read the report together with your help in signing this online petition that common sense prevails and they will reach the same conclusion and provide a Road Crossing in Titnore Lane.
